A very warm welcome to Whitsome’s place on the web!
Whitsome is a village in the Merse area of Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders.
Our village has a variety of unique features and facilities which make it a great place to live or visit.
- Whitsome Ark is our wonderful purpose-built Village Hall, opened September 2009 on a large well-maintained site. A community resource available to all – read our reviews.
- Whitsome Shop and Post Office is situated in the Whitsome Ark complex and carries all the necessities of life together with a full-service Post Office.
- Whitsome Enhancement Group is a body of volunteers who help to make our surroundings beautiful.
- Whitsome means “at the White Houses” (OE hwīt + OE hūsum – the same word that gives us “hoose” in Scots) and is recorded as early as the year 984. In 2025, we commemorated 480 years since the village was burned on the orders of Henry VIII.
